Vintage 1940s Carnelian Islamic Intaglio Ring

$1,800.00

Vintage honey agate and gold Islamic seal ring. A beautiful oval semi-translucent carnelian is carved with a verse from Quran (the 39th verse of the 18th Chapter, or Al-Kahf). I am told it reads "'As God may please,' for no one has power except given by God. Though you see me poorer in wealth and children than you," which is an excerpt from a longer passage, "When you entered your garden, why did you not say: 'As God may please,' for no one has power except given by God? Though you see me poorer in wealth and children than you, yet, my Lord may haply give me a garden better than yours, and He may send a thunder-bolt from the skies, and in the morning it will be a barren plain." Thus, it seems to be a reminder to be humble and grateful for one's possessions, as all good things come from God, and can just as easily be taken away. A beautiful and very substantial ring. The honey agate measures approx. 1 1/8" high x 3/4" wide. No hallmarks, but tests as 14K gold. Setting probably circa 1940s, intaglio probably 19th century. This ring is in very good vintage condition.

This ring is currently a US size 6 1/2, but can be resized by your local jeweler.
