Antique Art Nouveau Turquoise & Pearl Locket
Antique Secessionist gold locket with turquoise and pearls. Three plump berries, two turquoise and one half pearl on slender, elegantly drooping stems, take shelter under a beautifully veined and textured gold leaf, all rendered in quintessential Vienna Secessionist style. Inside, protected under glass, is a period photo of a turn-of-the-century gentleman with his impressive handlebar mustache. The back is smooth and unembellished, with a protruding hinged door, which opens easily and closes securely. A lovely flared bale at the top allows the piece to be suspended from a chain or ribbon (not included) as a necklace. The locket measures approx. 1 11/16" tall x 1 1/4" wide, not including the bale or jump ring. To the top of the bale is approx. 2 1/4". The glass and photo do not seem to be removeable. Circa 1900. Austro-Hungarian hallmarks for 14K gold (and tests as such) prior to 1922, assay mark for Vienna, with an unidentified maker's mark. The locket is in good vintage condition.
